The pulse of New York City’s nightlife is about to undergo a seismic shift. The Brooklyn Mirage — long hailed as the city’s crown jewel of electronic music venues — is launching into a bold new chapter, and it’s bringing along one of the genre’s most electrifying visionaries: Black Coffee.
In a move that cements both the artist’s global stature and the venue’s cultural clout, The Brooklyn Mirage has tapped the GRAMMY-winning South African DJ and producer for its first-ever residency. Set across four curated nights in 2025, the residency marks a major milestone not just for Black Coffee, but for the city’s evolving music scene.
A New Era for a New York Icon
Following an ambitious rebuild that promises to completely reimagine the Mirage experience, the East Williamsburg venue is positioning itself as a global destination for cutting-edge performance art, music, and immersive visuals. Now, with Black Coffee as its inaugural resident, The Brooklyn Mirage signals its intention to rival world-famous residencies in places like Ibiza and Las Vegas.
“The Mirage has always stood at the intersection of art, sound, and community,” said Josh Wyatt, CEO of Avant Gardner, the entertainment group behind the venue. “As we unveil a new chapter for the space, we wanted to bring an artist who shares our commitment to pushing creative boundaries. Black Coffee is that artist.”
Sonic Innovation Meets Spectacle
Black Coffee’s influence in the electronic music space is unmatched. Known for blending techno, house, and rich African rhythms into what he dubs an “Afropolitan” sound, he’s become a global tastemaker in dance music. But for his NYC residency, he’s raising the bar even higher.
Each night of the residency will be a fully immersive sensory experience, made possible by the Mirage’s new state-of-the-art production. Think: a 270-degree, 30K resolution virtual environment made up of over 3,000 LED tiles — creating what organizers describe as a “hyper-realistic” digital canvas. Pair that with a custom L-Acoustics sound system and Black Coffee’s signature visuals, and you’re looking at a multi-sensory experience that transcends a typical club night.
Attendees can expect each show to feel like a standalone journey, pulling from the deep well of Black Coffee’s discography and his knack for curating diverse lineups.
A Long-Awaited Homecoming
This residency also marks something of a homecoming for Black Coffee and The Brooklyn Mirage. The artist has sold out multiple shows at the venue in past years — including a three-night blowout in 2022 that closed out the season. Since then, his trajectory has only continued to soar, with sold-out performances at Madison Square Garden (where he became the first African DJ to headline the venue) and Brooklyn’s Under the K Bridge.
“New York has always had a special energy,” Black Coffee shared in a statement. “It’s one of the most exciting places to play, and I’m honored to now call The Brooklyn Mirage my home in the city — especially as the first artist to hold a residency here.”
Dates and Details
The residency kicks off on Sunday, May 4, with follow-up dates on Thursday, July 3, Sunday, August 24, and a season-closing finale on Sunday, October 19. All four shows will take place at The Brooklyn Mirage, located in the sprawling Avant Gardner complex in East Williamsburg.
